8th Grade Computer Literacy Curriculum

This semester class is designed to expose junior high students to practical applications of technology as tools for success in their school experience and beyond.

Word Processing
  • Daily journal writing
  • Emailed Weekly Project Journal summaries
  • Keyboarding Practice using online resources
  • Written summaries of virtual field trips
  • Student blog reflections on real-world technology topics
Spreadsheet
  • Basic to advanced use of spreadsheets to calculate data

          (i.e.- TV Viewer Habits, Is It Worth It, Prescott's Café)

Desktop Publishing
  • Design and production of publications for real-world events
(i.e.- digital scrapbooking, web page design, digital artwork)
Peripherals
  • Use of digital imaging for web design, desktop publishing, and multimedia projects
(i.e.-Scanning Real Objects, SMS Web Site, Interdisciplinary Projects, Digital Video Projects, Tricky Pics)
Web Design
  • Basic introduction to creating HTML code for web pages
  • Design of web page as portfolio index of semester work
Multimedia/Simulations
  • Project design of relevant topics using multimedia software for use in subjects across the curriculum
(i.e.-Interdisciplinary project "American Entrepreneurs" in conjunction with History class)

  • Simulations and programming topics
(i.e.-PLEO, Making History, Concert Tour, Building Homes of Our Own, No Limits Roller Coaster Design, ALICE, Animation Studio, SCRATCH)
Internet Research Skills and Digital Ethics
  • Locating information for projects using "smart" web searching 
(i.e.-Image Searches; Boolean Connectors;  Evaluating Internet Sources; Citation; Internet Plagiarism and Copyright)
  • Internet Safety and Digital Ethics on social networking, texting, cell phones, online gaming, email
  • Online electronic student assessments to evaluate course material mastery
  • Online assignment and classwork postings
  • Student email as classroom communication tool
